SAHO: 12- Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Forest and Lake Bunyonyi  (6 Days / 5 Nights)

DAY 1: From Kampala in the morning drive towards the west through Ankole rolling hills. Make a stopover at the equator for photographs; proceed to Mbarara Town for lunch. The drive en-route may be rewarded with Zebras and a variety of Antelope species especially the area bordering the L. Mburo National Park.

Enjoy a short game drive as you enter the famous Queen Elizabeth National Park to the lodge. Arrive at the Lodging facility of one’s choice late afternoon and check in. An evening game drive to wrap up the day will yield sights of most of the animals coming out of the bushes to graze and hunt prey Spend the afternoon relaxing at the Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or similar.

 

DAY 2: After breakfast, drive to 16 km long, 100 meter deep Gorge of Kyambura which is situated on the Rift Valley for a guided forest walk in search for the habituated chimpanzees and other primates. This will involve some hiking and climbing. In this well-preserved environment you will have a splendid view of birds, butterflies and some primates. After lunch, take the launch trip up Kazinga Channel and watch as the different species of game emerge from the woodland to the waters as well as those ‘sunbathing’ and cooling off in the waters. After the launch trip, drive back to the Lodge and relax at the pool. Have dinner and stay overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana Lodge or Hippo Hill Camp or similar. Simba Safari Camp and Mweya Hostel for Budget ones.

 

DAY 3: Leave the park for Bwindi Forest through Ishasha the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth in search of the famous tree climbing Lions. On the way, you can be rewarded in yielding sights of animals like Elephants, Buffaloes, Lions, Kobs, Waterbuck, and if you are lucky the shy Leopard and Spotted Hyena and also tour the volcanic area of the park with its stunning salt lakes and extinct crater lakes.. Dinner and overnight at Engagi Lodge.

 

DAY 4: After an early breakfast and briefing from the guides, set off for the gorilla tracking in the forest sanctuary. The activity starts at 8.30am. one will have to take with them a lunch box(es), drinking water and all the necessary gear like rain jacket and jungle boots to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences The time taken to find the gorillas varies according to the movements of these marvelous primates and that may be between 2 – 6 hours. An encounter with an earth shaking 350 pound silver back or a baby gorilla of the 650 left in the world is very exciting and never forgotten experience supplimented with Park Guides interpreting the flora and fauna and the lifestyle of the Gorillas! Dinner and overnight at Engagi Lodge or similar.

 

DAY 5: Depart from the forest for Lake Bunyonyi, the lake of little birds, renowned for its variety and abundance of avian. Enjoy a boat ride on this beautiful narrow lake surrounded by green hills. Dinner and overnight at Bunyonyi Safari Resort / Bunyonyi Overland Resort or Similar.

 

DAY 6: After breakfast leave the green hills for Kampala en route see herds of Ankole cattle with their incredible long curving horns. Arrive early evening.  End of service.
